Community Guidelines

Last updated: March 2026

Towne Common was built on a simple idea — that the best information about a community comes from the people who actually live there. These guidelines exist to keep this a place where neighbors feel comfortable sharing, asking questions, and connecting with each other. We’re glad you’re here.

Be a Good Neighbor

This is a community built on the same values that make small New England towns great — friendliness, helpfulness, and a genuine interest in the people around you. Treat every member the way you’d want to be treated at a town meeting or a neighborhood cookout. Disagreements happen, but keep them respectful. There’s no room here for harassment, personal attacks, or anything you wouldn’t say to someone’s face on the town common.

Welcome New Residents

Moving to a new town can be exciting and overwhelming at the same time. If someone introduces themselves as new to the area, say hello. Answer their questions. Point them in the right direction. That kind of simple warmth is what makes a community feel like home — and it’s a big part of why this site exists.

Share What Only You Know

The best thing you can contribute here is knowledge that isn’t on Google. The trail that peaks in October. The breakfast spot locals love. The mechanic who actually calls you back. The town event that’s worth clearing your calendar for. That kind of insider knowledge is exactly what makes Towne Common valuable — and it only exists because people like you share it.

Celebrate Local History

Our towns have deep roots and great stories. If you’ve lived here for decades, we’d love to hear what you remember. Old photos, historical tidbits, stories about how things used to be — this is the kind of content that connects generations and gives newer residents a real sense of the places they’ve chosen to call home.

Ask Anything

There are no dumb questions here. Whether you’re trying to figure out where to get your car inspected, which library has the best programs for kids, or what that construction on Route 111 is all about — ask away. This is a judgment-free zone and someone almost always knows the answer.

Recommend Freely

Word of mouth is the most trusted recommendation there is. If a local business did great work for you, share it. If you found a contractor who shows up when they say they will, let people know. Genuine local referrals are worth their weight in gold and help support the small businesses that make our towns what they are.

Keep It Local

Towne Common is focused on Boxborough and the surrounding Metrowest communities. Keep your posts relevant to local life — events, places, questions, recommendations, and conversations that connect to the area. This isn’t the place for national politics, viral content, or general social media chatter. There are plenty of other platforms for that.

Submitting Events

We love hearing about what’s happening in the community. When submitting an event, please make sure the details are accurate and complete — date, time, location, and a brief description go a long way. Events are reviewed before they’re published, so please allow a little time. We publish events that are open to the community or a meaningful segment of it. Purely private events or purely commercial promotions aren’t a good fit for the events calendar.

No Spam or Hard Selling

If you own or work for a local business, you’re absolutely welcome here — local business owners are part of the community too. That said, please don’t use Towne Common as an advertising platform. Genuine participation and organic recommendations are great. Repeated promotional posts, unsolicited offers, or anything that feels like a sales pitch isn’t the right fit here.

Respect Privacy

Don’t share personal information about other people without their permission. This includes addresses, phone numbers, photos of individuals, and anything else that someone might not want made public. What’s shared in the community should stay in the spirit it was intended.

Reporting and Enforcement

If you see something that doesn’t belong here — a post that’s hurtful, inaccurate, or just plain out of place — please let us know at ed@townecommon.com. We review every report and take them seriously. Content that violates these guidelines may be removed, and accounts that repeatedly cause problems may be suspended. Our goal is always to handle things fairly and keep the community healthy.

A Note from the Founder

I grew up in this area and have watched these towns grow and change over the years. I built Towne Common because I believe there’s real value in a local community space that’s clean, honest, and not driven by advertisers or algorithms. I hope you’ll treat it like the community asset it’s meant to be — and that you’ll help shape what it becomes. Thank you for being part of it.
